“Daphne Caruana Galizia was active for over thirty years as a journalist in Malta, as a reporter, editor, columnist and blogger. It was on her blog where her investigative skills as a journalist were honed and brought to the fore.”
The Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation
The Daphne Festival, happening in London, Malta and online, will mark the fifth anniversary since the assassination of Maltese investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. It brings together human rights and press freedom organisations as well as journalists, artists, activists and campaigners from around the world to remember Daphne, celebrate the legacy of her work and highlight the ongoing campaign for justice.
The festival will also reflect on women journalists from across the globe who face threats because of their work, the story of how Daphne’s investigations lived on and some led to her suspected killers, the growing momentum for introducing anti-SLAPP legislation in the UK and Europe as well as the creative legacy and expression of the past five years, inspired by Daphne and her story.
As we approach five years since Daphne’s assassination, justice has yet to be achieved. The culture of impunity festers on, and the individuals whose crimes Daphne uncovered have yet to face consequences for their actions. The aim of this festival is to join in the rallying chorus for justice for Daphne and other journalists around the world who have suffered harassment, imprisonment and even death for their work.
Speakers include Rana Ayyub, Rebecca Vincent, Juliet Jacques, Clare Rewcastle Brown and more.
